The Locked Library Origin Story

April 11, 2026 | Uncategorized

As a child there was never a more magical place than the library.  Shelves higher than I could imagine climbing, each stacked with more books than I could read in a lifetime.  Every book was a window into a different world.  I would spend hours in my room reading stories about princesses, babysitters, ghosts, detectives, adventurers- you name it.  Even into adulthood I found magic and wonder in the stacks of the libraries.  There was always something mysterious about wandering into the furthest corners of the library, where the dustiest and most fragrant books lived.  And then there were the stories.

Throughout my now former job as a teacher I found myself relying on storytelling constantly.  True stories or fiction, both were always great at getting antsy students on board with learning anything.  Even though music history was always my least favorite subject, it always ended up being one of my students’ favorites because I was able to lean into storytelling.  Mozart, Beethoven, Marvin Gaye, The Beatles,  these people had great stories to tell and they were the best way of teaching music history.  My love of storytelling continued on into my discovery of musical theater.  Creating the musical program at my school was probably the best decision I ever made.  It opened a door to my creativity that allowed me to see all kinds of new possibilities.

And now in the next stage of my life I’m relying on storytelling again, but this time through the lense of these magical libraries that I remember growing up with.  I’m so excited to share the magic of the Locked Library with everyone very soon!
